Accessories are items for Shovel Knight to use in Shovel Knight Dig, which similarly to the Relics from Pocket Dungeon they act as passive upgrades.

Usage[]

Each accessory has a very specific effect, that acts as a modifier for the rest of a run. If a stage is failed or abandoned, or a run is successfully completed, all Accessories are removed from the inventory. Specifically, once at the Surface, any Accessory acquired during a run is lost, necessarily needing to re-acquire them again during the next run of The Well in order to benefit of their effects a second time; if the Final Guard armor was equipped before dying, one Accessory can be kept and brought back to the Surface to be used in the next run.

Should all available Accessory be obtained in a single run, both Chester as well as the Drill Machine will stop offering them until at least one of them is lost.

In order to achieve the true ending, the three Sacrifice Shrines must be activated, by either offering an Accessory or a Shovel Blade Technique. The sacrificed item is however, not lost for good, as it can later be re-acquired thanks to one of the methods enumerated below. This allows multiple uses of the Fenix Feather in a run, since it can be sacrificed after being used and acquired new later.

Similarly, one Accessory is sacrificed at random at the beginning of each world in Knightmare X runs.

Acquiring[]

During Runs[]

There are several ways to acquire Accessories during a run:

  • By collecting all three Cogs in a stage, the Drill Machine at the end of it offers a choice between a Turkey (3 full HP refill) or a random Accessory.
  • Random Accessories can be found floating as a small loot bag in stages, obtained at random from Treasure Chests or offered by random NPCs in siderooms.
  • Chester can potentially appear in one of the siderooms, offering three random choices between Accessories, Relics, Health of Magic upgrades, Eggs, or Keys. Accessories are a much more frequent choice compared to the others. Their base price increase with each deeper level of the Well.
  • Accessories can be won in Tom Bola's tombola game, at Treasures 250 gems a draw.
  • With the Streamline Mail equipped, a random Accessory is always awarded for completing a stage. However, siderooms do not appear while this Armor is equipped

At the Surface (Unlocking)[]

Out of the 27 Accessories in the game, 15 are unlocked by default. The remaining 12 Accessories must be purchased once from Chester at the Surface before they can have a chance of appearing in the Well. Chester appears with his Bohto Wagon at the Surface after three runs of the Mushroom Mines, or after reaching the Smeltworks or Secret Fountain for the first time.

The price for unlocking Accessories increase by Treasures 1000 Gems with each new unlock, starting at Treasures 1000 Gems for the first purchase. Chester offers 4 Accessories at any time, however they are always the same four until at least one is bought. When that happens, another Accessory is made available the next time the player visits the Surface (after exiting a Run or restarting the game). Which Accessory appears next is determined by their order in the Compendium and as seen in the section below.

Unlocking all Accessories from Chester's rewards the Memento Sold out Sign, hoisted above the Bohto Wagon's carriage.
