— An Adventurer, Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope | ||
Adventurers are minor characters in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight Dig. They usually wander the Village and Armor Outpost but can also be found in other stages.
Appearance[]
Adventurers appear as bipedal male horses wearing clothing, although a single human one, who reuses the Villager sprite appears in the StreetPass Arena. Whenever horse people like the Adventurers, are supposed to have hands or hooves has been fairly inconsistent between sprites and original artworks, but it has been confirmed that at least Percy, another horse person, is supposed to have hands [1].
Story[]
Shovel of Hope[]
In Shovel of Hope, Adventurers can be seen around the Village and Armor Outpost. One can be found at the Knuckler's Quarry, hinting at using the Dust Knuckles to clear the stage. Another can be found at the StreetPass Arena in the Nintendo 3DS version along with a Villager also titled Adventurer. The latter gives Shovel Knight's overall scores at the arena. The same horse adventurer can be found at the catapult in the third quadrant of the Valley in a game version with either Kratos or the Battletoads, and hints at the location of the Mysterious Map inside the Hall of Champions.
In the ending, two adventurers can be seen accompanying Mole Knight in his expeditions to find treasures in the Lost City.
Plague of Shadows[]
In Plague of Shadows, Adventurers are only seen around the Village, but Plague Knight scares them away and cannot talk to them. One can also be seen aboard the Aerial Anvil, upon leaving the Armor Outpost invaded by Plague Knight and his minions. Percy, another horse, is a major character.
Specter of Torment[]
Although not appearing in the story itself, a horse Adventurer can be found at the end of the Specter of Torment challenge Beeto's Big Break, hinting at how to solve this tricky challenge.
King of Cards[]
In King of Cards, various Adventurers can be found roaming the various Houses of Joustus, with the exception of the Tower of Joustus, either giving tips on how the game of Joustus works, or commenting on the progress of King Knight's quest. One particularly rough horse-man, the Ruffian, is one of the competitors that must be defeated in order to challenge Black Knight in a Joustus match, while another, the glum Horzio, can be met at the Void Crater, him being the only one that can guide King Knight to the Fairy Glade.
Showdown[]
In Shovel Knight Showdown, inside the Mirror of Fate, illusions of Adventurers can be met in the Village - House of Joustus stage, where they, alongside other illusory copies of the citizens of The Valley, will sometimes form a stampede of people that damages any unfortunate fighter who isn't able to get out of the way in time.
Dig[]
In Shovel Knight Dig, three different Adventurers, each with a different color scheme, can be met at the Surface camp, attracted there by the riches contained deep inside the recently discovered Well. Thanks to their conversations with either Shovel Knight or the other wannabe spelunkers, more information about the Hexcavators, the Well, as well as rumors about a mysterious relic, the Omega Driver, can be gleamed on. On occasions, the Adventurers can also meet by the campfire with Percy, mentioning some kind of secret code shared between horse people. The Navy-clothed Adventurer in particular formed an adventuring party with the Meleeist and the Caster, where he supports the team with healing bursts.
Some of them with three other color palettes can be met in side-rooms of the Well, where they generously give off 
180, a follow item, an Accessory, a Relic, a Health Upgrade or a Magic Upgrade that are taking them too much space. Sometimes, however, enemies disguise themselves as those same Adventurers to fool Shovel Knight in an attempt to attack him.

Trivia[]
- The Adventurer's sprite model is named "Tunic", but his color palettes are named "Horse Person".
- An adventurer in the Armor Outpost mentions having seen another knight with a shovel who was 'scary looking'. He may be referring to either Black Knight, Polar Knight, or even the strange Fish Head character, who looks similar to Shovel Knight and occasionally walks through the Armor Outpost.
