“ | Toss a coin for a chance at riches. If you're lucky you can win big! | ” |
The Alchemy Coin is a Relic in Shovel of Hope and Plague of Shadows.
Shovel of Hope[]
Usage[]
When used, the Alchemy Coin is lightly tossed and moves along the ground, turning small enemies such as Ratsploders and Blorbs into gold. The coin bounces off of armored or stronger enemies, and will bounce back when struck with the Shovel Blade. It costs 8 on each use, and only one coin can be tossed at a time.
The Alchemy Coin is the subject of the Reflected Riches feat, which is earned by bouncing the same Alchemy Coin 5 times in a row.
Availability[]
The Alchemy Coin can be purchased from Chester in the Explodatorium for 3000 or in the Village for 3500 after completing the stage.
Plague of Shadows[]
In Plague of Shadows, Plague Knight can find the Alchemy Coin in the secret area of the Explodatorium marked by a Cipher Coin embedded in a wall. It can be traded with Chester for the Staff of Surging Arcana in the room Shovel Knight normally buys it.

Trivia[]
- The Japanese version of the game has a different sprite to evoke ancient Japanese coins.
- Interestingly, in the Plague of Shadows expansion, Plague Knight will consider the Alchemy Coin a "worthless relic" upon finding it, even though it is an artifact related to Alchemy.
- However, this could be a reference to famous concept of creating gold through Alchemy, which is often considered the "fool's gold" as it is not true gold.
