- This article is about the Armors Shovel Knight wears. For the armors King Knight wears, see Armors (King of Cards). For the Armors used in Shovel Knight Dig, see Armors (Dig).
Armors are protective gear worn by Shovel Knight throughout Shovel of Hope. Much like Plague Knight's Cloaks, Specter Knight's Cloaks, or King Knight's own Armors, each Armor other than the default one and the Ornate Plate bestows Shovel Knight with special bonuses.
Availability[]
Shovel Knight starts only with his trusty Stalwart Plate, but he can purchase new armors from the Armorer at the Armor Outpost. Once purchased, Armors can be freely switched by speaking again to the Armorer, or Goatarmorer found in the Village in New Game Plus.
The Armor of Chaos and the Toad Gear are special version-exclusive Armors, and are unlocked after finding the Curious Map in the Hall of Champions and defeating Kratos and the Battletoads, respectively. Once beaten alongside his pals, Zitz can offer the service to switch Armor for the Toad Gear at the Mysterious Area, much like the Armorer.

Amiibo Costume[]
Unlike the other playable knights, in the Nintendo versions talking with Madam Meeber and summoning the Fairy of Shovelry Fairy companion after scanning either the Shovel Knight's amiibo or the Golden Edition amiibo, does not offer regular Shovel Knight the option to don a costume set. Instead the amiibo can be used to play as Custom Knight, a highly customizable version of Shovel Knight who, among its various additional options and cosmetics, has one costume, the "Baron Set", which is specifically designed like an extra upgraded version of the default Stalwart Plate set, much like the costumes of the other playable knights. The other two costumes available are much less centered around the looks of the Armor itself. Being completely cosmetic, the costume does not have any effect, much less so because the effects of equipped Armor sets are negated for Custom Knight.
This same costume also permanently unlocks in Showdown once either the Shovel Knight's amiibo or the Golden Edition amiibo are scanned for the first time.
Trivia[]
- There is another set of armor, green with pink horns, visible at the Armor Outpost that cannot be bought nor worn. The leggings, boots, and Shovel Blade can be seen in the front of the Aerial Anvil. The chestplate is in the back of the ship, behind the Airship Enthusiast.
