Beetos are one of the most common enemies in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, and Shovel Knight Dig. They are red beetle enemies with blue eyes, usually with a size comparable to that of a medium-sized dog.

Behavior and Tactics[]

This pest skitters along the ground and wanders off ledges. Nimble warriors can juggle Beetos in the air with repeated attacks.

Treasure Trove[]

Beetos appear in almost every stage of the Valley. They possess only BossHealthHalf (1) hit point and causes Sword 1 damage point upon contact. They can only attack the protagonists by walking into them. If hit with a weapon (other than Bombs), such as the Shovel Blade's Dig Slash, a Scythe's Slash or a Shoulder Bash, Beetos are flipped into the air upside down. From here they can either be juggled higher or used to Shovel Drop or Dash Slash to greater heights, but no longer cause damage upon contact. This peculiar and unique feature is the focus of the challenge Beeto's Big Break. Upon defeat, Beetos drop a 5 gold worth blue gem.

The game modifier Beeto Breach in Shovel Knight Showdown has Beetos rain down from the top of the screen during a match. Upon landing, Beetos start behaving like in the rest of Treasure Trove. The same phenomenon is also an obstacle that frequently appears during match of Percy's Targets.

Pocket Dungeon[]

In Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, Beetos appear in various stages including the Plains, Pridemoor Keep, and Chromatic Caverns. Being one of the easiest enemies in the game, they have SNewestBubblesPurple (1) hit points, deal SATKsword 1 damage point to the player, and have no special abilities. They are ideal to use in order to solve some of the Feats.

The Puzzler's Pack DLC introduced Beefto, a giant, sentient and incredibly ripped Beeto.

Shovel Knight Dig[]

Beetos in Shovel Knight Dig behave the same as in Treasure Trove and have the same stats (UI boss HP1 (1) health point and Sword 1 damage point).

The Hexcavator Hive Knight makes use of a finely trained olive-colored Beeto named Fleck as a pretty effective battle partner. Unlike red Beetos, Fleck makes effective use of its wings.

Joustus[]

Card[]

The Beeto card has a Single Arrow facing right.

Cheat Card[]

The Cheat Card Beeto Swap changes your opponent's hand to 3 weak cards.

Variants[]

Blue Beeto[]

Introduced in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, Blue Beetos are Beetos with a blue shell, and green eyes. They are exactly the same as their red counterparts, except that they have four hit points instead of two, making them harder to defeat. They only appear in the Clockwork Tower. Despite their similarities, they must not be confused with their much more speedy cousins, the Fleetos.

They can easily fill the Clockwork Tower board without any item, Relics or special abilities to inflict more than one damage, and thus shall not be neglected.

Rolling Beeto[]

This species of Beeto builds dirt balls by rolling up detritus and scrap. Even if the Beeto is defeated, the dirt ball remains.

Compendium entry, Shovel Knight Dig

Introduced in Shovel Knight Dig, Rolling Beetos are regular Beetos rolling a dirt ball. They keep the same stats as their regular counterpart. The dirt ball they roll may vary in size, and touching it while the Beeto rolls it inflicts Sword 1 damage point. After defeating the Beeto, it is possible to Shovel Drop on the dirt ball and make it roll, allowing access to elevated spots. However, if two dirt balls touch each other, they will be destroyed.

Rolling Beetos only appear in the Grub Pit. They either appear alone doing back and forth with their ball in an enclosed room, or go through in a room in an endless procession.

Armored Rolling Beeto[]

An invulnerable Rolling Beeto generally found in a processation. It's best to follow their path instead of trying to fight them.

Compendium entry, Shovel Knight Dig

Introduced in Shovel Knight Dig, Armored Rolling Beetos are blue Rolling Beetos with orange eyes and a tougher shell. They behave the same as regular Rolling Beetos, but can block any attack while continuing to roll around, making them invincible.

Armored Rolling Beetos too only appear in the Grub Pit. They either appear alone doing back and forth with their ball in an enclosed room, or go through in a room in an endless procession.

Trivia[]

  • Beetos are the only regular enemy with the ability to be juggled.
    • The only other enemy type with this attribute is the scissor-wielding Propeller Rats found in the PC/Xbox One versions exclusive rappelling section of the Mysterious Area. The juggling feature was specifically added to mimic the ability to juggle enemies in the original Battletoads video game to rank up extra points as, similarly, juggling the Rats will make them progressively drop larger values of treasure.
  • Beetos have wings protected behind their Elytron, although only Hive Knight's companion Fleck has been shown using them.
  • In Pocket Dungeon, a red Beeto icon is used to represent the lowest CPU level (1) in VS Mode. An icon of a never-seen-before scholar golden Beeto is used to represent the highest CPU level (9), outranking the Alchemeister's.
