Big Bohtos are minor enemies in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, and a NPC in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon and Shovel Knight Dig. They appear as very large navy blue beetles with two sturdy frontal horns and a gooey sack on their back.

Story

Pocket Dungeon

In Pocket Dungeon, Chester uses a tamed Big Bohto to pull his Bohto Wagon. The beetle mount was trapped with him and his moving shop within the Pocket Dungeon. After he sets up his shop at Puzzle Knight's Camp, the Big Bohto mount can be found napping by the pondside near Mona. Anyone who tries to bash against the giant beetle, will end up being bounced slightly back.

They all escape the puzzle trap in the true ending.

Shovel Knight Dig

In Shovel Knight Dig, Chester returns with his Bohto Wagon. This time, they parked themselves at the established camp on the surface around the entrance of The Well, left behind by Drill Knight, while Shovel Knight explore its depths trying to recover his bag of loot and stop the Hexcavators scheme.

Behavior and Tactics

In Treasure Trove, wild Big Bohtos are found in the Lost City and Bohto's Big Bounce for King of Cards.

Although they are considered enemies, they do not inflict damage directly, and cannot be damaged themselves. Their flat horn can be walked on, while touching its gelatinous back will cause Shovel Knight and King Knight, to bounce. These two mechanics are employed for platforming challenges.

Joustus Card

In King of Cards, Big Bohto has its own card. This card has 3 Double Arrows: one facing left, one facing up, and one facing right.
