Explodes, damaging everything in its radius.

Bombs are an explosive hazard that appear in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon (where they are classified as items), and Shovel Knight Dig.

Treasure Trove Description[]

Bombs usually appear inside certain fake walls or sometimes in a silver platter instead of food, what is known as a Platter Bomb. The enemy variants Black Griffoth and Bombscale will also always drop a Bomb instead of food upon defeat. Bombs explode a short time after being revealed, damaging any players and enemies caught in the blast.

Shovel Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight can all knock bombs around with their basic attacks, which is one possible way to defeat The Dinghy Dropper. Plague Knight however is unable to do this, as he will always prematurely detonate them if he uses any of his personal chemical-based Bombs.

In New Game Plus, Bombs become much more common, as all food stored in platters or dropped by enemies is replaced with one of them.

Showdown Variants[]

In Showdown, Bombs work mostly the same as the main campaigns, with many more characters capable to toss them aside if needed; however Bombs can now not only appear as Platter Bombs but also inside Bubbles, known in this case as a Bubble Bomb. Other than regular Bombs, Bubbles can also potentially contain the exclusive Siege Bomb, a much larger explosive that takes longer to detonate but produce a much bigger explosion, with an effect similar to the Cluster Powder. Siege Bombs can also be spawned by the Mirror of Fate should its flame-like attacks enter in contact with Gems, in which case the Gem will be counted as collected by the Mirror.

Another item exclusive of Showdown is the Boom Basket, a basket that contains 5 bombs, colored with the color of the team it was picked up by. Each time a [jump] is performed a bomb will be deployed, which will result harmless for anyone with the same team color, but damaging for the surrounding environment and adversaries from opposing teams.

During a round of Percy's Targets, bombs will appear mixed among the regular Targets; if hit in any way, a Bomb Target will reset the built-up combo multiplier and damage the fighter if they hit it directly. As such, the only way to deal with them, excluding clearing them with a Bonus Target, is to let them go undisturbed off screen, in which case they will instead reward points. Bombs will also occasionally appear as Platter Bombs, or even begin to rain down from above across all of the arena when the score reaches a high enough threshold; luckily unlike with the Bomb Targets, these bombs can be knocked out of the way before they explode, but they still pose a threat that should not be underestimated considering every other challenge the game round throws out.

Pocket Dungeon Description[]

In Pocket Dungeon, the standard Bombs virtually works exactly as in Treasure Trove, except that start inactive and only lit up once hit once. Their range of explosion is slightly larger and they can trigger other Bombs and damage all the enemies around them. To better understand where is safe to stay, a blast radius is briefly displayed after any kind of explosion is activated, be it from a Bomb, a Griffoth's shockwave, a Ratsploder's detonation and so on.

While the Too Big Bomb Relic is equipped, not only their blast radius greatly expands, but their design slightly changes, with different colors and becoming more ornate. Another Relic, the Bomb Seed Bag, makes Bombs more common and grants immunity to their explosions. When playing as Plague Knight, Bombs will become green with a skull on them, signifying that they will inflict a poison status on any surviving enemy after detonating. The basic Bomb has a blast radius of 2 squares around it, and deals 3 damage points to anything caught in it.

Additionally, smaller scale explosions can also be provoked by some other factors; for example Mona's ability makes Potions explosive, the Dynamallet Relic makes enemy chains explode, and the Super Skeleton Key makes regular Keys detonate.

Pocket Dungeon also introduced new nomb variants in the form of crystal-like bombs. Unlike the standard Bombs, these crystals don't have a timer and instead explode immediately once activated, but they are harmless to the playable knights.

  • The Fire Bomb has the standard Bomb effects with the added quirk to leave damaging flames in its blast radius upon detonation, further harming any unlucky enemy.
  • The Ice Bomb leaves any enemy caught in its blast radius that was not slain by the initial explosion temporarily frozen.
  • The bigger and rarer bomb, the Crystal Clear, damages every enemy on the screen. It can additionally appear if the playable knight has suffered multiple deaths in a row in the same Dungeon.

In the Guidebook, the various types of Bombs and Potions are classified as Items.
