These magma-swimming fish have scales that are impervious to heat, but susceptible to blunt force from the side

Compendium entry, Shovel Knight Dig

Charflounders are minor enemies in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight Dig. They ressemble fish with a stone-like head and bones, and a body made of molten lava.

Behavior and Tactics[]

Treasure Trove[]

In Treasure Trove Charflounders jump out of pits (usually lava pits) when the protagonist is close. Bouncing on their armored heads using the Shovel Drop or King Knight's spin will allow the player to bounce across pits. The only way to damage them is attacking from the side. They only have (1) health point and deal 1 damage point.

Charflounders appear in the Lost City and Tower of Fate: Entrance.

Shovel Knight Dig[]

In Shovel Knight Dig, Charflounders only appear in specific stages of the Smeltworks where lava occupies the bottom of the room and slowly drains down as Shovel Knight goes down. Charflounders behave the same as in Treasure Trove. They only have (1) health point and deal 1 damage point on contact.

Joustus Card[]

In King of Cards, Charflounders have their own Joustus card. This card has 1 Bomb Arrow facing up.

Trivia[]

  • If Shovel Knight uses the Fishing Rod in certain lava pools, a Charflounder will come out and flop on the ground.
