— Drill Knight, Shovel Knight Dig |
Drill Knight is an infamous criminal who is responsible for committing and pulling off robberies using his drilling abilities. He is the primary antagonist in Shovel Knight Dig.
He and his digging crew, the Hexcavators, have wrecked Shovel Knight's campsite and stolen his loot, prompting the hero to pursue them inside the massive hole they have created. However, the ultimate prize he and his crew were after, proved to be far, far more dangerous than what they anticipated.
Official Bio[]
“ | With a string of high-profile heists under his ochre belt, Drill Knight’s name has become synonymous with precision pilfering. But despite his villainy, Drill Knight’s dramatic flair for the grandiose has made him… popular? Perhaps that’s why he was able to form the Hexcavators – a super-specialized digging squad greater than any seen before. No one seems to know the true purpose of their big dig just yet… but we sure wish we did. Because when Drill Knight talks, it feels like you could just listen for hours! | ” |
- Pros: Charismatic, Transforming Drill-Tech Armor
- Cons: Overconfident, Impatient
Appearance[]
Drill Knight is a large knight covered in silver and gold drill-tech armor. The armor features three drills, one on top of his helmet and two at the ends of his arms. He also wears a purple cape.
Personality[]
Very little is known about his personality, but he is known to be impatient and overconfident in his work. He is, however, shown to genuinely care about his team, as seen by him keeping his promise to make sure that all the Hexcavators got to see the treasure at the bottom of the well in Shovel Knight Dig, and by him attempting to run to their aid when they are attacked by The Enchantress.
Abilities[]
Drill Knight has a knack for engineering, much like Tinker Knight. Aside from his own technologically advanced drill-tech armor, Drill Knight also has a large drilling platform, the Rocket Drill, his personal mode of transportation, which he uses to raid his targets and escape with their belongings.
In combat, he can not only use his muscular build and the drills on his gauntlets to deliver devastatingly powerful punches, but can also shoot said drills as perforating projectiles. Furthermore, his entire armor can convert itself into a single drill, making him capable to burrow himself out of harms way and attack his adversaries from below.
Story[]
Background[]
Drill Knight had partaken in many heists before, becoming famous for his high-precision thefts. However, due to the lack of evidence, he always managed to evade proper punishment for his crimes. He also met Scrap Knight before any of the other Hexcavators. At one point, while they were using the Tower of Fate as their base, they both heard of a supposedly "powerful weapon" buried beneath the earth,[1] and assembled a team of criminals to retrieve it, the Hexcavators. With their help, Drill Knight managed to obtain five of the six Stones of Fate. Once Scrap Knight found a map detailing the location of the door where the stones would be used, their plan truly went into motion.
Dig[]
Following the map Scrap Knight had found, Drill Knight began digging with his Rocket Drill, landing in Shovel Knight's campsite and stealing his bag of loot, which contained the last gemstone. Shovel Knight, to retrieve the bag, followed the thief into the well, an enormous network of tunnels underneath the land.
At either Magic Landfill or the Grub Pit, depending on which one is visited first, Drill Knight can be found talking with Scrap Knight about the map she had found that supposedly lead to the treasure vault. She believes she should be the one to reach the room, as she is the one who found the map, but the leader insists that all of the Hexcavators should get an equal share of the money and fame. Hive Knight also intervenes, if Shovel Knight is in the Grub Pit.
After finally catching up with Drill Knight inside his moving castle, which had just reached the treasure room, Shovel Knight confronts him, warning him that his actions were not only without honor, but they were also reckless due to the lack of understanding of the forces they were messing with. During their battle, Drill Knight's Omega Saw malfunctions due to the Omega Driver, an ancient Relic retrieved by the blue burrower, revealing a hidden locking mechanism that needed the six Gemstones to unlock, opening the way to the Crystal Core. Past that, the Hexcavators finally found the prize they were searching, the extremely powerful amulet. Upon touching it, The Enchantress, now freed from her ages-long imprisonment, appears and orders that the thieves kneel to her. Drill Knight refuses the offer, though, as he only serves the "numero uno", causing her to transform him into a giant monster and trapping his team inside the Stones of Fate. Fortunately, the combined forces of Shovel Knight, his partner Shield Knight, and her pet owl Altius, are able to subdue the creature and trap The Enchantress back into the Amulet.
After this, the Tower of Fate, which in the meantime had reached the Crystal Core, began to re-emerge to the surface, the two chambers now reattached to the original building's top floor once again,[1] and due to the Stones of Fate which were used to maintain the tunnels stable being moved, the Well began to collapse. Forced to abandon their plans to destroy the amulet then and there, the three heroes used the Rocket Drill to make a hasty escape, while Drill Knight, expelled from the amulet and injured, dragged himself out of peril's way, utterly defeated and with his pride shattered.
With their big heist being ultimately a failure, the Hexcavators disbanded and went their own separate ways. Drill Knight was finally successfully arrested and put into jail, but was nonetheless able to evade moments after, thanks to his drill-tech armor, fleeing to parts unknown.
