Drill Knight's Castle is a world in Shovel Knight Dig.

Description[]

Drill Knight's Castle is the fourth and first final layer of the Well. Like its owner, this opulent fortress is equipped with drill-tech, which allows it to dig and move through the ground like a giant vehicle. All through the Hexcavators' excavation, Drill Knight's Castle has been tunneling deeper through the earth to reach a hidden treasure vault following the instructions of a map Scrap Knight had found. There, the digging squad hope to find the prize they are after: a weapon of unimaginable power.

Drill Knight's Castle is perilous, filled with mechanical drill-themed traps everywhere in addition to the Omega Saw pursuing intruders. Giant crossbows follow intruders through certain stages layouts, to pin them with long drill rods. In other layouts, a barrage of giant spears fall from the ceiling to impale anything on their way down but solid platforms. Sometimes laser beams, shooting from drill-like emittors, either block the way until deactivated or actively pursue the intruders. Layers of dirt dug out by the castle scroll in continuous streams, forcing Shovel Knight to dig through them or be crushed by them. Sometimes, in order to progress forward, special locks must be opened, with said passages only opening once one of the medium-sized drill projectiles, which are constantly being shot nearby, is redirected in a drill socket located on one of the walls or the floor.

Shovel Knight Dig[]

Upon reaching the second stage, the Tower of Fate appears sinking down in the ground rapidly and passes along Drill Knight's Castle, eventually positioning itself at the bottom of the Well, and thusly opening the way for its otherwise unreachable secret treasure room. At the end of the third stage, at the bottom of the mechanized fortress, lies this fabled treasure vault which Drill Knight has already reached and entered. Shield Knight helps Shovel Knight pass a final trap consisting of blocking spears, but she accidentaly slips, and is unable to follow him to the vault itself in order to help defeat Drill Knight.

If towards the end of the boss fight, Shovel Knight stops damaging Drill Knight and instead sabotages the Omega Saw with the Omega Driver, the malfunctioning deadly device falls and destroys the vault's floor, revealing a hidden locking mechanism that requires all six Gemstones of Fate to open. If any of them are missing when attempting to open it, the vault starts collapsing. If all are reunited, the mechanism opens a tunnel to the Crystal Core, the mysterious center of the planet.
