Fancy Shop is the shop owned by Mr. Hat, seen in all of the campaigns and appearing as an optional stage in Shovel Knight: King of Cards.
Story[]
Shovel of Hope[]
When Shovel Knight enters the shop, he can give 1000 gold to each of the 3 customers present so that they can purchase hats. This angers Mr. Hat, but he quickly shifts his attention to Shovel Knight's helmet. He traps Shovel Knight inside the shop and attacks him. After Mr. Hat is defeated, he apologizes and leaves. Shovel Knight can then follow Mr. Hat around the Armor Outpost to retrieve his money back.
Plague of Shadows[]
After Plague Knight lands in the Armor Outpost and defeats the attacking knights, he can enter the Fancy Shop. There, Mr. Hat is furious that Plague Knight scared off his customers and gets into an argument with him over what is better headwear: hats or hoods. This argument results in a fight, where Plague Knight is victorious. Plague Knight asks how Mr. Hat is so strong, and he explains he draws power from his hats. Hearing this, Plague Knight wants to buy some, but Mr. Hat explains that the power of the hats only works on him. The two say goodbye to each other and leave the shop.
Specter of Torment[]
The Fancy Shop is seen only during the ending, when The Enchantress attacks the Armor Outpost with her forces.
King of Cards[]
King Knight enters the Void Crater and finds the Fancy Shop at the end of it. There, he talks with the shop owner, Mr. Hat, about his wares, and Mr. Hat becomes interested in King Knight's crown. When King Knight looks at the prices, he finds out they are ridiculously high, so he leaves. Mr. Hat follows King Knight and pleads with him to buy something. King Knight jumps on his rat rope to leave the stage, but Mr. Hat cuts it, preventing King Knight from leaving. Mr. Hat's obsession of collecting hats overpowers him, and he attacks King Knight. After being defeated, Mr. Hat apologizes and repairs the rat rope. He also asks if he could take his shop to the Glidewing, and King Knight agrees. He jumps on the rat rope with Mr. Hat, who takes his shop with him. The shop lands on the Glidewing, on the empty ledge where Ledge Farmer stands. Here, King Knight can finally buy the wares since Mr. Hat gives him a discount.
During the ending, King Knight betrays his allies, and The Enchantress's forces attack the Glidewing. This causes the Fancy Shop to detach from the Glidewing and land in the Armor Outpost, with Mr. Hat inside of it. Interested occupants enter the shop to check it out. Alternatively, if King Knight never recruited Mr. Hat, Mr. Hat becomes fed up with the lack of customers in the Void Crater and drags the shop himself to the Armor Outpost.
Showdown[]
Fancy Shop is seen on three occasions:
- Part of Village - Armor Outpost Stage, but in the smaller state.
- The ending of Baz's Story Mode, where Baz sweeps the shop due to debt to Mr. Hat because he stole the armor from him sometime ago. After he repays his debt, Baz leaves the shop, leaving only Mr. Hat and one of the Rookies inside.
- The ending of Mr. Hat's Story Mode, where Mr. Hat is seen in the secret room, full of various hats he collected. He then tries out the newest one, the Goldarmor's helmet. He then leaves the secret room, still wearing the helmet.
