These generally docile creatures can be sighted in the skies and seas.

Compendium entry, Shovel Knight Dig

Floatsomes are minor enemies in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Pocket Dungeon and Shovel Knight Dig. They appear as big yellow jellyfish floating in midair. Their juvenile form is known as a Floatsmall.

Behavior and Tactics[]

Treasure Trove[]

In Treasure Trove, Floatsomes mostly exist to serve as platforms for Shovel Knight, Specter Knight and King Knight to bounce off them. Regular Floatsomes do not pose a threat unless the player collides with them, which inflicts one damage point. They only have BossHealthHalf (1) health point and deal Sword 1 damage point per contact. They do not drop any treasures when killed. They can be found at the Flying Machine and Tower of Fate: Ascent.

Pocket Dungeon[]

In Pocket Dungeon, Floatsome have SNewestBubblesPurpleSNewestBubblesPurpleSNewestBubblesPurple (3) health points and inflict SATKsword 1 damage point. They fuse together once they are close enough, creating large clusters of enemies which can easily block parts of the board vertically. They appear in the Iron Whale and Flying Machine stages.

Shovel Knight Dig[]

Floatsomes in Shovel Knight Dig behave the same as in Treasure Trove. They have UI boss HP1 (1) health point and deal Sword 1 damage point per contact. They only appear in the Secret Fountain in specific layouts.

Variants[]

Voltsome[]

While generally docile, this blue variety of Floatsome periodically electrifies.

Compendium entry, Shovel Knight Dig

Voltsomes are a blue variant of the original Floatsomes that can also electrify themselves for a few seconds. When electrified, they are invulnerable to the player's main weapons and inflict instead damages upon them. They have the same stats as Floatsomes in any game.

In Treasure Trove, Voltsomes appear in the Flying Machine and Frigid Flight.

In the Puzzler's Pack DLC of Pocket Dungeon, they can fuse together like regular Floatsomes. Voltsomes are Legendary Path foes in the Flying Machine.

In Shovel Knight Dig, Voltsomes can also electrocute any Water Flow in their area of effect, shocking any creatures (including Shovel Knight) touching it and dealing Sword 2 damage points. They only appear in the Secret Fountain in specific stage layouts.

Goldsome[]

Goldsomes are gold variants of Floatsomes and only appear in Co-op Mode of Shovel of Hope. They replace regular Floatsomes in sections where they are needed for platforming. They have the same behavior but have BossHP (2) health points instead. After taking one hit, their color change to that of a regular Floatsome.

Joustus Card[]

One of the Joustus cards in King of Cards is a Floatsome card which has 2 Double Arrows facing left and up. It's also a Cascade card.

Trivia[]

  • The model's name for Floatsome is "Jellyfish" in the game's files.
  • At one point, Floatsomes, when killed, were able to spawn miniature versions of themselves that would pursue the player, as seen in one of the game's trailers. This behavior is not present in the final product.
  • An invincible variant, the Metal Floatsome, was used by developers during the development of Specter of Torment as infinite platforms for Specter Knight's Dash Slashes. It was ultimately cut, although Lanterns got the same purpose.
