Macawbes are crow-like enemies shrouded in a purple mist in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. They only appear in the Explodatorium.
Behavior and Tactics[]
Macawbes fly high straight across the screen and drop explosive vials on their targets. Despite having only one hit point, the speed and height at which they fly make them difficult to attack. After flying off the screen, Macawbes will respawn on the other side of the screen. When defeated, Macawbes drop no treasure, only Jars.
The potions they drop can both destroy blocks and damage other enemies. In Specter of Torment, when a potion enters in contact with water, it creates fire spreading across the entire water surface.
Joustus Card[]
One of the Joustus cards in King of Cards is a Macawbe card which can push other cards to the left and down using its 2 Double Arrows.
Trivia[]
- Macawbes are a clever play-on-words with the exotic bird, "macaw" and the term "macabre", which is a quality of something grim or ghastly. It could also be a play-on-words with "macchabée" (pronunced [makabe]), a French slang word for "dead body".
