Serprizes are green catfish-like minor enemies in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and in the Puzzler's Pack DLC of Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. They are found in the Iron Whale and Tower of Fate: Ascent.

Behavior and Tactics[]

Treasure Trove[]

In Treasure Trove, Serprizes start out invisible but fade into view and move towards the player when they draw near. In Specter of Torment and King of Cards, some of them may appear out of water. In this case they will erratically flop around like a common fish, becoming more unpredictable in the process.

Serprizes possesses BossHP (2) health points and deal Sword 1 damage point. Upon defeat they drop a Treasures icon 10 gold worth green gem and one Jar.

Pocket Dungeon[]

In Pocket Dungeon, Serprizes are Legendary Path foes in the Iron Whale. Serprizes can turn invisible and only appear visible for a turn all at once when one on board is attacked. Prudence around them is required since they can spawn and block a player's path without them realizing. They are not invisible to the Observe feature, which can help navigate the board carefully.

Serprizes have SNewestBubblesPurpleSNewestBubblesPurpleSNewestBubblesPurple (3) health points and deal SATKsword 1 damage point.

Joustus Card[]

In King of Cards, Serprize have their own Joustus card. This card has 2 Double Arrows facing right and down.

Trivia[]

  • Their name is a pun of surprise, derived from their usual attack strategy, and their serpentine appearance. Their long barbs however make them look similar to Catfish.
  • Before the introduction of Legendary Path Quandaries, a Serprize appeared on the splash screen for the 3rd version of the Puzzler's Pack DLC.
  • Serprizes replaced Mantars at some point during the development of the Puzzler's Pack DLC. Mantars were initially planned to be able to camouflage themselves like real-life stingrays.
