— 'Fish Head', Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope |
Fish Head (also known as ????) is a minor character who first appears in Shovel of Hope. He can be seen running through the Armor Outpost, though quickly and rarely. Custom Knight, included with the Shovel Knight amiibo, can acquire a costume named Fish Head set. This costume replaces Shovel Knight's helmet with the head of Fish Head, making them similar in appearance. It also comes with custom dialogue portrait and character model for the map.
In King of Cards, a Fairy version of this character, known as the Fairy of ????, can be found in the Fairy Glade. He also has a Joustus card, which calls him Fish Head, confirming his name.
In Shovel Knight Showdown, Fish Head appears as a costume for Shovel Knight, unlocked after completing all other Feats. He has different taunts and victory messages compared to the regular Shovel Knight.
Appearance[]
Fish Head wears the same blue Stalwart Plate armor as Shovel Knight. However, he has no helmet, revealing a blue fish head similar to a catfish.

Trivia[]
- With Fish Head taking the same appearance as Shovel Knight, many people speculate that Shovel Knight himself is actually a fish head character. It is hinted to be a simple joke put in by the developers.
- This is also referenced on Yacht Club Games' s official FAQ, where one of the questions is "Will Shovel Knight eventually become a Mermaid?". They answer: "Oh! I thought you would never ask! We’ll just have to see!"[1]
- Many crossovers and special appearances have also touched upon this idea. Shovel Knight's appearance in Rivals of Aether gives him a secret taunt where his helmet accidentally falls off, revealing the fish head. It is currently unconfirmed if this has anything to do with Fish Head or the canon version of Shovel Knight.
- In an official series of merchandise statue by First 4 Figures, Shovel Knight's head can be swapped out with the Fish Head. There is also a golden variant for the Ornate Plate edition.[2] It is still not stated, however, if this is Shovel Knight's appearance under his helmet.
- Very rarely, a 'school' of Fish Heads can be seen running through the Armor Outpost.
