Relics are items for Shovel Knight to use in Shovel Knight Dig.
While similar in nature to the Relics, Arcana, Curios, and Heirlooms from Treasure Trove, in Dig only one Relic can be stored for usage at the time, swapping out for a new one each time a different one is picked up. Should the same Relic be picked up two times, the total number of uses for said Relic would be doubled, and so forth.
All the relics currently available can be found enlisted in the Compendium.
Acquiring[]
Some of the Relics can be found at random in each of The Well's stages while others must be first unlocked. To do so a special Relic Key must be purchased from Hoofman, and successfully brought to the respective locked gate. Once inside, Shovel Knight has to traverse a brief tutorial course with infinite uses for said Relic, after which the Relic becomes added to the pool of possible Relics found in The Well.
If a stage is finished without dying the Relic will be retained for the following one, and so on until death occurs or upon deciding to willingly go back to the surface. Once at there any Relic acquired is lost, necessarily needing to re-finding them again during the next Well run in order to benefit of their effects a second time.
Finding and unlocking all regular Relics will reward the Memento Fully Equipped Sign.

Additionally, there are two "special" Relics, the Mud-Encrusted Relic and the Omega Driver. The Mud-Encrusted Relic is actually another relic that needs to be cleaned off before being usable, this being achievable either after three uses of the item, or by washing it in the waters of the Secret Fountain. It starts with 1 use and it has the same maximum as its clean equivalent, so which Relic it is can be narrowed down by checking its maximum in the pause menu. The Omega Driver on the other hand, is a special Relic that can only be obtained in The Grub Pit or the Magic Landfill behind a Triple-Locked Door, is the only way to permanently disable the Omega Saw, and it is also required in order to achieve the true ending. Its maximum is fixed at 1 use no matter what, and it is the only Relic unaffected by the Tome of Relic Thrift Accessory; but Magic Jars can still be collected to replenish its single use unless it is used on the Omega Saw, at which point it will be lost. It is slightly homing, and it is capable of defeating almost every enemy in a single hit.
