Relics are items for the playable knights to use in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. While unique in each playthrough as the Relics, Arcana, Curios, and Heirlooms from Treasure Trove, these items are more akin to passive upgrades than alternate weapons.
Usage[]
In Pocket Dungeon, Relics function as upgrades. Each Relic can only appear once during a run. Any Relic obtained during a stage are kept for the next one. If a stage is failed or abandoned, or a run is successfully completed, all Relics are removed from the player's inventory. Specifically, once at the Camp, any Relic acquired during a run is lost, necessarily needing to re-purchase them again during the next Dungeon run in order to benefit of their effects a second time.
Chester and Glitzem stop offering Relics after having acquired 12, however, more can be acquired from other sources.
Relics should not be confused with Items, which instead to being passive upgrades are limited use only, usually by temporarily upgrading the default attack or being extra attacks.
Acquiring[]
During Runs[]
Relics can be bought with Gems from Chester during runs of the Pocket Dungeon. His shop can be found in a blue chest spawning in each stage, with the exception of the first and last ones. In each stage he is met, Chester offers three Relics chosen at random from a poll of possible choices. For each Relic the player acquired, the base price for all Relics throughout the run increases by 1250 each, unless made cheaper by the Bountiful Bugle or some other modifiers.
Another way to acquire Relics is by meeting Glitzem, the friendly Wizzem running the Relic Chance Game in random side-rooms of the stages. For 1000 per try, a random Relic can be won by chance. While there is a chance of acquiring Relics for a cheaper price than at Chester's, there is always a risk of wasting a vast sum of Gems too.
If many Hats are equipped, then there is a chance that Mr. Hat will appear as an optional boss encounter; defeating him will reward a random Relic. Speaking of Hats, some of them alter the way Relics are earned, such as making them cheaper, more expensive, transforming them in Time Capsules etc. In particular, the Present Hat will grant a free Relic at the beginning of each stage.
Lastly, the first and third Shrine always offer 1 Relic for free among two randomly selected.
The Quandary Sage is the only playable character that cannot equip Relics under any circumstances, not being able to even acquire them.
At the Camp[]
At the Camp, Chester offers to unlock new Relics. Any Relic bought at the Camp is then added to the poll of possible Relics that can appear in the Pocket Dungeon. Unlike the first type of purchase, this one is permanent on the player's profile.
Like in his shop in the Pocket Dungeon, Chester always offers up to 3 different Relics. However, it will always be the same three unless the player buys one. When that happens, another Relic is made available the next time the player visits the Camp (after exiting a Run or restarting the game). Which Relic appear next is determined by their order on in the Guidebook and as seen in the section below.

Paradox Pack DLC[]
While these Relics were added with the Paradox Pack DLC, they do count towards the Feats Fully Stocked, Reliquary, and Purist.
Tief's Relics[]
Introduced in the Paradox Pack DLC, Tief's shady shop can sometimes appear as a sideroom during runs of the Pocket Dungeon, where he sells exclusive "Relics". These are not required to be unlocked to appear. Also unlike Chester, Tief does not provide further explanation on these Relics' use.
Trivia[]
- The Relics Tief sells are either bundled with Lumber pieces, completely useless if not collected them all, lesser or counterfeited versions of existing Relics, or items he stole from Puzzle Knight's hidden workshop in the Camp.
