Schmutz, also known as Mr. Schmutz,[2] is a character in the Paradox Pack DLC of Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. He is a white cat that can be found in Puzzle Knight's abode.
Schmutz is directly based on the pet cat of Celia Bee, marketing director of Yacht Club Games, a likewise white cat with the same name.[3]

Schmutz is an average white cat with yellow eyes. He has a pink nose and pink inner ears.

Pocket Dungeon[]
Schmutz can be found in Puzzle Knight's abode with the right conditions: by simply typing in "Schmutz" at the Set Seed option while in Puzzle Knight's secret room, his Vault will explode, unlocking the cat to play as. The sudden explosion also scares away Tief; once Schmutz is switched over for someone else, he will hang out at the Camp's Grotto, while a new safe reappears in Puzzle Knight's room, and Tief also returns to his pointless attempts to crack it open. The explosion scene can however, be seen anytime by simply repeating the process again.

Schmutz has the ability to jump, similarly to Plague Knight's Bomb Burst refract ability, moves two spaces at the time similar to the Spinwulf, and deals damage in a cone, attacking up to three units in front of him, which, with proper planning, can let Schmutz either avoid direct damage from the more powerful units, by attacking the nearby, weaker ones, or to deal extra damage to a single chain of enemies if more than one of its units is within his range. Combined with his superior moving abilities, Schmutz can be a very powerful ally; however, this cat has by default a reduced HP of 3, being as low as Tinker Knight, making him extremely fragile until his lack of HP is somehow improved.
Completing any run with Schmutz unlocks another secret ribbon in the Guidebook, just like finding Beefto's special ball, winning a run with the Adult Bean's mustache equipped, completing a run with a playable Spinwulf, completing the hardest of the secret Quandaries of an unchanging Random Knight (achievable thanks to a special hat from Mr. Hat), and unlocking the Quandary Sage. Once all ribbons are earned, a crown appears in the Guidebook.
Due to Schmutz possessing only 2 Quandaries, the Legendary Path and the Trial of Offerings, he lacks a Refract Ability of his own, similarly to Random Knight, the Quandary Sage, and the Spinwulf, and likewise does not have a statue made by the Sledge Farmer. The Spinwulf and Schmutz, when they become playable characters, can only be found at the Camp; likewise, the Quandary Sage can only be found at Castle Quandary. In addition, Scrap Knight can pet both Schmutz and the Spinwulf by just attempting to bag them; however, doing so multiple times will result in the Spinwulf eventually waking up and rejecting the pets, unlike Schmutz.
