Spikes can be seen on the left

Spikes are a hazard occurring in many stages in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight Dig, and only in the Stranded Ship in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon.

Treasure Trove[]

Mechanics[]

Spikes are usually on the ground but sometimes on the walls or ceiling. Touching spikes means instant death for the protagonist regardless of current health, just like touching lava or falling into pits.

Tactics[]

The Mobile Gear, Phase Locket, Smoke Bomb, Rail Mail, and the Hover Plume when upgraded, allow the player to to traverse spikes safely.

Pocket Dungeon[]

Mechanics[]

Spike tiles can be generated randomly at the beginning of the Stranded Ship stage. They are also created by Polar Knight in his boss fight. The player character takes 1 dmaage point when stepping on Spikes, and one more for every turn spent stepping on it.

Tactics[]

The Nimbus Balloon Relic as well as the Chronos Glass, Smoke Bomb and Chronos Coin (when activated) make the player character immune to the effects of Spikes.

Shovel Knight Dig[]

Mechanics[]

There are different types of Spikes in Shovel Knight Dig:

  • Small Drill-like spikes deal 1 full damage point upon touching.
  • Large Drill-like spikes deal 2 full damage points upon touching.
  • Immobile spikes that deal 3.5 damage points upon touching.

Tatics[]

The Spikeproof Sabatons make Shovel Knight immune to Spikes and safe to walk on.
