The Enchantress, Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope

The Enchantress is the evil sorceress who commands the Order of No Quarter and is the main antagonist of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, as well as the true main antagonist of both Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon and Shovel Knight Dig.

Her final form, the Remnant of Fate, is the final boss of Shovel of Hope.

Official Bio[]

Of all the monsters roaming Shovel Knight’s world, none are as dangerous as the Enchantress. Cold, brilliant, and pulsing with vile power, the Enchantress is a preternatural force. Her Order of No Quarter carries out her will with ruthless might, although her origins remain shrouded in mystery. With a loyal army under her command, she is more than a match for a solitary knight with a lowly shovel... or so she assumes!
  • Pros: intelligence, magical prowess, healthy glow
  • Cons: no sense of humor, seems sad sometimes...

Dig the Vote pitch[]

Tone[]

The Enchantress’ story revolves around the frighteningly cold power she displays, and some more insight into her past. Maybe the Order has rebelled, and the Enchantress has to enforce her authority!

Original Play Style Ideas[]

  • Mobility and Damage – All of attacks have extra mobility options built right in!
  • Self Inflicted Danger – All attacks can harm her too. You might have that boss pattern down but but you’ll need a dodge strategy for your own attacks too!
  • Fast – Can run through levels quickly.
  • Glass Cannon – Has lower health than other characters.
  • Reflect – Projectiles are not a problem!

The Enchantress ended up taking the 6th place of the Dig the Vote selection, with an average score of 5.38.

Personality[]

As deep as her history goes, she is a malevolent being with evil intentions. She has shown to be quite cunning yet aloof to the fact that she is Shield Knight, even though she possessed her.

Strategy[]

The Enchantress herself is a fairly simple boss, but the floor being made entirely of dirt blocks makes it more complicated, as the player is forced to use Shovel Drop sparingly to avoid falling. The Enchantress begins by throwing fireballs that can be whacked back at her. After a while, she then floats to the top of the screen and throws fireballs downward, destroying some of the floor. Next, she dashes all over the screen and attempts to divebomb Shovel Knight. Then, she uses her pyrokinetic powers to bring up some flames from the bottom of the screen; the flames lurk at the bottom of the screen and follow Shovel Knight's position for a few seconds before rising up to consume the floor. Thankfully, the flames will turn into dirt blocks when they go out if they consume a space that didn't have a dirt block. The player can use this to get the Enchantress to replenish the floor by getting her to spawn flames near large gaps in the floor so they can be replaced with blocks.

History[]

Background[]

According to the images in the room containing the Omega Driver in Shovel Knight Dig, long ago, an amulet falling from the sky landed in the Valley, containing within an evil spirit who, with nothing to bind it, was quick to wreak havoc. Soon enough, a hero rose and, with the Omega Driver itself, as well as the six Stones of Fate, bested the fiend and sealed it away in a room on the top floor of Tower of Fate. Furthermore, the room and it's above treasure vault, were detached from the tower, and embedded into the planet's Crystal Core as another precaution,[1] even adding a hidden locking mechanism to block the way to the amulet. The only traces left of the monster were the Liquid Samurai, left alone to guard the dark fortress itself, as nothing more than an extension of her immense malevolent power and will.

Dig[]

At some point, the thief Drill Knight and his Hexcavators, while holed up in the Tower of Fate, learned of the existence of a supposedly "great weapon" and, wishing to obtain riches and fame from acquiring it, began plotting a big heist. So they excavated a gigantic Well in order to reach the detached treasure vault; having learned of their importance, they'd to first need to steal the six Stones of Fate all over the valley, one of which was owned by none other than Shovel Knight. So Drill Knight ambushed Shovel Knight and took his Gemstone along with his hard earned loot, in the process also making a surface entrance to his Well.

By using the Stones as supporters for the hole, the Hexcavators dug deeper, unaware of the dark magic tainting the Gemstones manipulating their actions from the shadows, subtly spurring them to dig deeper and deeper. Meanwhile, the Tower had begun to sink into the earth, and the Valley quickly became plagued with earthquakes. Shovel Knight, who not only wanted to retrieve his bag but also had guessed that some sinister plot was at play, caught up to them, but he was too late: during his fight with Drill Knight, he used the Omega Driver, disabling the Omega Saw and accidentally revealing a secret opening Drill Knight was not aware of, which opened up due to Shovel Knight possessing all six Stones of Fate. After making their way through the Crystal Core, Shovel Knight and the Hexcavators found the amulet's chamber, with the artifact cocooned in dark magic tentacles. Drill Knight violently broke this last seal and the artifact, now free, did little to keep the Enchantress trapped inside, releasing her in a monstrous ghostly form into the world once more. As Drill Knight realized that she was, in fact, the weapon they were searching for, she commanded the group to kneel and serve as her minions, to which they refused. As they got ready to fight her, she easily trapped them in the stones and transformed their leader into a giant monster, which Shovel Knight was forced to defeat with the help of Shield Knight and Altius the owl.

With the monstrous Drill Knight defeated, the Enchantress was once again trapped in the amulet. However, without the gemstones, which were keeping the Well stable, the hole started to collapse and the Tower of Fate, which in the meantime had sunk into the ground all the way to the Crystal Core, began to re-emerge to the surface, the treasure vault and amulet chamber now reattached to the original building top floor once again,[1] forcing the group to a hasty retreat.

So, with no time to destroy the amulet at the moment, they agreed to return to the Tower of Fate at another time, and end the amulet before anyone decides to use it for any intentions be it good or otherwise.

The Enchantress free once again[]

Unfortunately, as revealed in the flashback sequences of Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, with the way towards the Amulet now open for anyone to reach it, it led to two treasure-seekers, Luan and Donovan, to climb the building and track the amulet down, as Luan believed the artifact could protect Reize, his son, from all harm.[2]

Once they both arrived at the room containing the amulet, they encountered someone else who was trying to find it: Shield Knight, who alongside Shovel Knight had finally come to destroy the Amulet, and had run slightly ahead of her partner. Donovan and her then fought for the item, but the confrontation destabilized the room and, while Luan desperately told his partner the amulet wasn't worth it, Donovan, too blinded by rage to listen to reason, injured him before the floor collapsed and the two of them fell down below to their doom.

This causes the amulet to let out the Enchantress, who then possessed Shield Knight; the dark witch then tracked down the dying Donovan, and proposed to extend his life if he became her servant and tracked down knights for her Order of No Quarter. Having no other choice, he accepted and was transformed into the undead Specter Knight. Meanwhile, Shovel Knight was knocked out by Shield Knight's transformation and expelled from the Tower, which then sealed itself from outside interference.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards[]

In Shovel Knight: King of Cards, the Enchantress creates a sham tournament in which the prize is being crowned "King of Cards" with the Joustus Crown, in addition to an incredible treasure. She also starts mass-producing Joustus cards in her Tower of Joustus. Unbeknownst to all, this is all a plan to get the world to obsess over something while she forms her Order of No Quarter. She also originally planned to control the minds of the two true Joustus Judges, but she later deemed it unnecessary as she figured she was already winning.

While King Knight traverses the Valley to beat the Joustus Judges and win the contest, the Enchantress spies on him while disguised as a Cloaked Figure. Once he beats King Birder, she reveals to him and his crew, which at that point also included King Pridemoor and a Troupple Acolyte representing the Troupple King, the competition's true objective and how King Birder was actually just a regular Birder she had enchanted to serve as her puppet third judge, stating she had already won and that it was futile to try and stop her. Once she leaves, the Birder, who can now speak due to the Enchantress's magic, says that he overheard her plans while being controlled and offers to help by joining the Glidewing's crew.

The Enchantress's Joustus card can be found in the Shrouded Spires, when taking the secret exit. There is a breakable wall underneath where one of the Liquid Samurai are placed.

Once they arrive Tower of Fate: ????, the Enchantress battles King Knight and, after her defeat, uses the essences of King Pridemoor, the Troupple Acolyte and the former King Birder to create The Grand Triumvirate, a golden giant monster. Throughout this sequence, she attempts to persuade King Knight into becoming a knight in her Order of No Quarter by offering him the position of king in the Pridemoor Kingdom and, once he defeats the being, he decides to betray his crew and join her army.

During the ending, she can be seen in her Cloaked Figure persona trying to transform the Troupple King's acolytes into her own.

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment[]

In Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, the Enchantress is first seen after Specter Knight returns from the Plains. Due to his failure in recruiting Black Knight, she demands that he succeeds in getting the other knights to join the Order of No Quarter.

Once three knights have been recruited, Reize jumps through the window in the Mirror of Fate room. She, after seeing Specter Knight horrified reaction, decides to imbue him with dark powers and transforms him into Dark Reize. who then decides to test his new powers against Specter Knight. After the fight, the Enchantress decides to replace the cowardly Dark Acolyte with him.

Once nine stages have been completed, Black Knight breaks in and tells Specter Knight that he has impeded his search for too long, until the Enchantress appears. Black Knight unintentionally reveals to Specter Knight that she is Shield Knight. Once they are both gone, the furious Specter Knight states that Shield Knight stole his "very life away" and decides to go after her with the help of Dark Acolyte, who busts out of the dungeons through the hole Black Knight made.

At Tower of Fate: ????, after briefly being trapped in the Mirror of Fate during Shovel Knight Showdown, the Enchantress encounters Specter Knight, whom she assumes was there simply to report his progress. He then reveals that he is actually there to fight her. After her defeat, she calls upon Dark Reize, who she transforms into Nightmare Reize and makes him battle for her. After both have been beaten in combat, the Enchantress states Reize will make the perfect final member for her Order of No Quarter, but Specter Knight steps in as he had promised Luan to keep his son safe and offers to be in the group instead, using his final act of free will to restore Reize to normal using the power in the Keepsake Locket which was intended for him. The Enchantress, now owning Specter Knight's life, sends him to The Lich Yard which she deems a fitting post.

During the ending, she can be seen attacking the Armor Outpost, and later, sitting in her throne while the Order of No Quarter, with the exception of a still defiant Specter Knight, bows to her.

Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope[]

In Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, the Enchantress, after having taken over the Valley with her Order of No Quarter, resides in the Tower of Fate. Shovel Knight, with his spirits broken after Shield Knight had been supposedly claimed in the tower long ago, decides to go back to being a hero once more and stop her (the reasons for this sudden decision revealed in Showdown).

From within the Tower, the Enchantress waited, confident that those who opposed her would be stopped. She briefly left it to try to persuade Black Knight to join her cause, but she was refused, much to her anger.

Before the battle against Black Knight in Tower of Fate: Entrance, the Enchantress appears and asks if he has finally accepted to join her, but he denies it once again, stating he answers to no one. infuriated, she then imbues him with her dark powers and leaves, calling it a "tiny taste of the power [he] spurned", making the ebony knight go berserk. After Shovel Knight defeats him, Black Knight affirms his opponent's realization that the Enchantress is actually Shield Knight, only being possessed by the amulet, explaining that this is why he is protecting her.

At Tower of Fate: ????, the Enchantress tries to convince Shovel Knight that Shield Knight is forever lost but, despite this deception Shovel Knight steer himself and confronts her. After being defeated, Shield Knight is freed from the now-shattered amulet's dark influence. Due to it shattering however, the Enchantress, in the form of the Remnant of Fate, breaks free and the duo, now reunited, are forced to defeat it too.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows[]

In Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, Plague Knight, in order to brew the Ultimate Potion, needs to collect the Essences of each one of the members of the Order of No Quarter, in addition to the Enchantress's. Once he arrives at Tower of Fate: ????, the Enchantress states she has no need for her Essence, but her servants must be reminded of their place and fights him. Eventually, she decides killing him would be a waste of a powerful alchemist and willingly gives him what he needs, teleporting away. it is implied that she then met Shovel Knight and was defeated for good.

Her essence was so powerful, that it briefly caused the Ultimate potion to spiral out of control, resulting in the creation of the Corrupted Essence.

Shovel Knight Showdown[]

In Shovel Knight Showdown, which takes place between the last two stages of Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, the Enchantress is trapped inside the Mirror of Fate along with a number of other characters due to a malfunctioning machine made by Dark Acolyte, Red, Missy, and Manny to trap her. In her story, already having a punishment in mind for her misbehaving servants, she meets Black Knight, who briefly joins her as he refuses to harm or let Shield Knight be harmed. Eventually, she attacks him with the intention of making him her servant and breaking out of the mirror. After breaking out, despite feeling a "strange conflict from within," she decides she won't rest until Black Knight has joined her ranks.

In Shield Knight's story, the Enchantress finds out the two had been separated by the mirror and sees it as a good opportunity to destroy Shield Knight for good. Later, they fight again, and Shield Knight breaks free, but finds herself still not in control of her body once outside. Having "vowed to fight to the bitter end," Shield Knight decides she won't give up, as neither would Shovel Knight.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon[]

In Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, which takes place during Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope and Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, the Enchantress found by chance the Pocket Dungeon, and devises a plan to trap the heroes of the Valley inside the cube, while she could do as she pleases on the outside, as her magic allowed her to easily exit the box's imprisonment whenever she wanted to. Her presence inside the puzzle box shaped its landscapes, adding the Tower of Fate to the dungeon.

To enact her plan, she, under her Cloaked Figure persona, tricks Prism Knight into projecting her clones outside it and placing the puzzle box in good spots to trap whoever finds it inside, saying that in the end, she will get to see her father. To get to the Tower of Fate, where the Enchantress resides in the Pocket Dungeon, the four Key Fragments must be assembled before fighting Puzzle Knight.

After she is defeated, she spitefully transforms Puzzle Knight into the monstrous Master Mind, before leaving, but after defeating the monster all of the knights are able to escape the Pocket Dungeon unopposed.

Black Knight's wandering encounter, before his fight "The Enchantress: With you by our side, Black Knight, total dominion is within our grasp."
"Black Knight: I beg of you, take my words to heart.
Your safety is my only concern!
"

[The Enchantress leaves]

"Shovel Knight: Was that the Enchantress!? Tell me wh-"
"Black Knight:
YOU!
Haven't you tired of this charade? Stay out of this!
"
"Shovel Knight: You never were one to blindly follow, Black Knight, but The Order and the Enchantress must be stopped!"
"Black Knight: Fool! You're headed down a ruinous path!"
"Shovel Knight: The only path I seek leads to The Tower of Fate. And I will reach it."
"Black Knight: Never! Steel thy shovel!"
Tower of Fate: Entrance, before Black Knight's fight "Black Knight: Shovel Knight! Stop your meddling and turn back now! This is your last chance!"
"Shovel Knight: I will reach her, Black Knight, even if I have to go through you."

[The Enchantress appears]

"The Enchantress: Black Knight, are you guarding my tower? Have you finally decided to join us?
You may kneel and pledge your loyalty now.
"
"Black Knight: For the last time, I answer to no one!"
"The Enchantress: Very well. Here's a tiny taste of the power you spurned."
"Shovel Knight: '"

[The Enchantress shoots magic at Black Knight then leaves]

"Shovel Knight: Black Knight!"
"Black Knight:
I WARNED YOU TO STAY AWAY!
"
Before her fight "The Enchantress: ...It's a beautiful night, isn't it?"
"Shovel Knight: Shield Knight! Come with me, let us leave this place!"
"The Enchantress: How pitiful, clinging to false hope, chasing ghosts."
"Shovel Knight: ...."
"The Enchantress: So, have you come to slay me, Knight? To avenge your beloved?
Gaze into my eyes. See how fearful I am. Watch me cower as you draw your blade.
"
"Shovel Knight: I don't need a blade to fight evil. Shield Knight, I know you aren't lost forever."
"The Enchantress: You haven't the slightest hope of defeating me, but I won't stop you from trying... so please...
LET US DANCE TOGETHER INTO THE ABYSS!
"

Before her fight "The Enchantress: Plague Knight. Ah, so your fool's errand draws to a close."
"Plague Knight: Hee hee, you know what I'm after, Enchantress... and how important this is."
"The Enchantress: Do not speak to me of importance. Your quest is folly! You'll never be anything more than you are."
"Plague Knight: ..."
"The Enchantress: So, you've come to rob me of my Essence? To shape the world to your whim? Essence is insignificant to me, but you, my servant, must be reminded of your place."
"Plague Knight: My place is by Mona's side, and you won't stop me."
"The Enchantress: If you insist on dancing with death...
Then I shall take the lead!
"
After her fight "The Enchantress: Killing you would be a waste of my energy... and of a powerful alchemist. I'll make use of you yet, Plague Knight... take what you will. Make your potion! But what you truly desire will always elude you."

First stage completed "The Enchantress: So. You've returned. I assume Black Knight has joined our ranks?"
"Specter Knight: Neither words nor scythe had any effect. The fool persists in some fruitless quest."
"The Enchantress: Indeed, it seems I am dealing with fools here! Was I a fool to trust you? Tarry here no longer, and for your sake pray that the others are less obstinate. Bring the knights immediately!"
Four stages completed "Reize: Stop right there! Reize is here to save the day!"
"Specter Knight: ........ Reize?"
"Reize: The one and only! Uncle said there's evil stuff going on in here. And when evil's afoot, Reize is on the rise!"
"Specter Knight: Childish...You don't belong in this place... Run along, before you get hurt!" "The Enchantress: Who dares to intrude on my tower?"
"Reize: Hey lady! My name's Reize. Are you up here to help me beat these guys up?"
"The Enchantress: Oh..
Ho ho ho ho
. Looking for an apprentice of your own, Specter Knight?
"
"Specter Knight: He's nobody! Just a naive kid. Let him be... I'll escort him out myself."
"The Enchantress: A
nobody
, you say? Well that just won't do. Let's make something of him, shall we?
"
"Reize: What? What are you doing to me?! The darkness...
It hurts
!! Stop!
Arrrghhhhh!
" "Reize: So.. potent... Ha ha ha!! Now
this
is the kind of feeling I could get used to! Put 'em up, skinny. Why don't we take my new powers for a spin?
"
Dark Reize defeated "The Enchantress: Oh, how delightful! I am impressed, Reize. Perhaps I can find a use for you around here! Let's see..."
"Specter Knight: ..."
"The Enchantress: Let's see... That nervous acolyte is certainly unfit to guard this mirror. Take his place, if you would!"
"Reize: Of course, my master. Can I destroy him?"
"The Enchantress: Not too hasty, my child. He can ponder his fate in the dungeon. And you.. Stop wasting time! Return to the task at hand, and do not fail me again!"
Eigth stage completed, Third Memory "Donovan: Luan... I'm...
H-Halt! *cough*
Who goes there?
"
"The Enchantress: You have sealed your fate. Your friend has fallen, and your own life is forfeit! ....
Hmmm
...Unless....
"
"Donovan: Unless?"
"The Enchantress: Unless you do as I command. I shall grant you a reprieve from certain death.. And give you great power."
"Donovan: I gather I don't have a choice, then?
*cough*
Fine, I'm listening.
"
"The Enchantress:
Ho ho ho ho...
You will gather me a grand army! The knights of this land will bow before me. You will bring them here, and I will have a fearsome order.
"
"Donovan: If... If that is your price, then so be it..... so be it.."
"The Enchantress: I bind you with this enchanted locket! When eight knights kneel before me, it will gain the power to restore life."
"Specter Knight: I will.. do as you wish."
"The Enchantress:
Ha ha ha ha!
Yes! Go now, my Specter Knight, and sow fear throughout my empire!
"
Ninth stage completed "Specter Knight: Reize? Where have you gone off to now?"
"Black Knight: Donovan! This has gone too far! Your meddling across the Valley has impeded my search for long enough."
"Specter Knight: You cannot stop the Enchantress, but as her eighth knight, you could roam the Valley as you wish... even find the one you seek."
"Black Knight: Never! I would sooner die than join the Enchantress!"

[The Enchantress appears]

"The Enchantress: Oh,
hhho
, that can certainly be arranged.
"
"Black Knight:
ShielKnight
!?
At last, I've found you! Come, let's leave this place! I will bring you to safety!
"
"Specter Knight: .... Shield Knight?"
"The Enchantress: Pledge your loyalty to me, Black Knight, as my final knight."
"Black Knight: W-what's happened to you? Come to your senses at once!"
"The Enchantress: ...Very well, then. Specter Knight, dispose of this intruder!"
"Black Knight: Donovan, this is madness! We have to find a way to reach Shield Knight!"
"Specter Knight: It was
ShielKnight
all along!! She took
everything
! The Amulet! Luan! She stole my very life away! This ends tonight!
"
"Black Knight:
No!
I must save her! I have to find her before it's too late!
"
Before her fight "The Enchantress: Oh it's you. Have you come all this way to report your progress? Where is my eight night?"
"Specter Knight: None of that matters any more! Prepare to face your demise, Shield Knight! Your treachery ends here!"
"The Enchantress:
My
treachery? I granted you new life.. But now you intend to take mine? Perhaps showing you mercy was a mistake... One I will not repeat!
"
After her fight "The Enchantress:
Oh ho ho ho!
Weakling! ..... Reize, my child! Come to me!
"
"Reize:
Yes, my queen?
"
"Specter Knight: Release Reize!
Haven't you done enough?!
"
"Reize: I'd give anything to serve you! Do with me what you will!!"
"The Enchantress: My child!
Drink deep of darkness!
Reveal your
full potential!
"
Nightmare Reize defeated "The Enchantress: Fair enough. Reize has proven a loyal servant... He'll be the perfect final knight of the
Order of No Quarter
!
"
"Specter Knight:
No! Leave him!
"
"Specter Knight:
I will serve as your eighth knight! Take me instead.
"
"The Enchantress:
Oh? Now you are ready to bow before my might?
"
"Specter Knight:
I.... I am yours to command. But first, the final act of my
own volition!
" "The Enchantress:
Ha!
Reize has played his part well. With the power of the locket squandered on this whelp, your life is forfeit...
Now, you belong to me!
"
"Reize:
*cough*
...D-D-Donovan?
"
"The Enchantress: Henceforth and forever you will serve me in the Lich Yard! A fitting post, don't you think?
Ha ha ha!
"
"Specter Knight: ..."

Defeating King Birder "Troupple Acolyte: By frond and finn!
It's a FAKE! A decoy!
"
"King Pridemoor: King Birder was merely an enchanted Birder? But then.. who is the final Joustus Judge?"

[The Cloaked Figure appears]

"Cloaked Figure:
O ho ho ho.
My poor, feathered puppet. Ah well, the ruse was great fun while it lasted.
"
"King Pridemoor: King Birder was a deception! What's the meaning of this!?
Who are you, witch!?
"
"The Enchantress: You may pledge your loyalty now, for it is none other than I, The Enchantress!!"

[The Cloaked Figure transforms into The Enchantress]

"The Enchantress: The Joustus Crown was a contest of my own devising.
I wanted the kings, the "Joustus Judges", lured into one place... ready to be controlled!
"
"Troupple Acolyte:
No! Teachery!!
"
"The Enchantress: While the world obsesses over a silly card game, I've been amassing an invincible order of knights."
"King Pridemoor: A rogue, recruiting evil knights in our kingdoms!?
Disastrous!
"
"The Enchantress: I was going to control your minds, but the Joustus Crown has already afforded my plans ample time.
Can't you see? I've already won. Soon, you'll feel the might of a true tyrant.
Toodle-oo,
imbeciles!
"

[The Enchantress leaves]

"Troupple Acolyte:
We must return and warn the the others!
What will become of our kingdoms?
"
"Birder: What a strange dream.. Oh, and new friends are here! Are they the ones that rescued me?"
"Troupple Acolyte:
Pomaceous pufferfish!
The Birder can still talk?!
"
"Birder: Wait. Are they talking about me? Can they hear
me?!
..The Enchantress gave me a voice!
It was
her
voice before... But now I have my own voice! And I've overheard her plans. Maybe I can help?
"
"King Pridemoor: King Knight, this birder has endured great hardship for his knowledge. Please, listen to him."
"Birder: Hop on my back, friend. I'll tell you all I know about the Enchantress. Perhaps, with luck, we'll prevail."
Before her fight "The Enchantress: King Knight? It's impressive you've come this far. I apologize, I've underestimated you.
King Knight
"
"King Knight: ..."
"King Pridemoor: There she is! Follow me! This way!"

[King Knight's followers enter the throne room]

"The Enchantress: And you've brought your jesters as well? You know, you don't need them. You are the most important one here."
"King Pridemoor:
Preposterous!!
We stand together as kingdoms and people.. as it should be!
"
"Troupple Acolyte: Our roots run deep in the waters, and our friendship has hatched and blossomed through respect!"
"Birder: Now that i have my own voice, hear me clearly! I'm no king, but our flock
flies in formation!
"
"The Enchantress: Under that bravery and conviction lies fear and uncertainty. Who among you is ready to meet their demise?"
"King Pridemoor: Strike true, King Knight! All of our hopes lie with you!"
After her fight "King Pridemoor: You're doing it, son! She's hanging by a thread!"
"Troupple Acolyte: Our champion prevails! We're rooting for you, King Knight!"
"The Enchantress: These are the so-called leaders of the kingdom?
Ha!
A king acts, not huddles behind a champion.
Shun these cowards, King Knight, cast them off... you are the true king.
"
"King Knight: ..."
"The Enchantress: Let's twist these false monarchs into something more useful, hm?
Long live the kings! Ho ho!
"
Defeating the Grand Triumvirate "King Pridemoor: We did it, King Knight! Her spell is broken! But help!
I'm losing my grip!
"
"The Enchantress: Yes, King Knight...
you
have proven yourself.
Come with me. Forget these weaklings. Join my Order of No Quarter, and rule Pridemoor Keep as its one true king.
It's all yours. Just abandon your friends.
"
"King Pridemoor: Ha! He would never..."
"King Knight: ..."
"King Pridemoor: My boy, don't listen to her! You wouldn’t leave us to hang here,
would you!?
"
"King Knight: ..."
"King Pridemoor: Have you learned nothing about being a king?
Please
... What would your mother think!?
"
"King Knight:
Silence!!
"

[King Knight Shoulder Bash the chain and send his former followers falling into the void]

"The Enchantress:
Ho ho ho!
Splendid, my King Knight. Crown jewel of the Order of No Quarter!
Specter Knight did well to bring you to me.
Now,
your highness,
what would you issue as your first proclamation?
"
"King Knight: Shred every Joustus card! The King of Cards competition is over! the only crown that matters.. is
mine!
"
"The Enchantress: It shall be so. The armies of the Tower of Fate prepare to march at this very moment.
Now come, your majesty. finally, let us forge a new kingdom in
fire!
"

Third fight in Shield Knight's story mode "Shield Knight: Stay where you are! Hold on... I've seen you before, I'm sure of it."
"The Enchantress: Oh,
ho ho ho,
are you now? What a surprise. It does appear we were separated.
What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost!
"
"Shield Knight: Are you causing all of this? Does it have to do with the Tower of Fate? Tell me what's going on, now!!"
"The Enchantress: For a mirror image, you lack clarity. But no matter.
I've an opportunity to get rid of you for good, and I'll take it!
"
Ninth fight in Shield Knight's story mode "The Enchantress: Enough. You will go no further, and you will keep well away from my poor malfunctioning mirror."
"Shield Knight: I knew it! It was you all along! You trapped me! Free me at once!"
"The Enchantress: Even if the mirror is shattered, you'll have no freedom! But, if you'd like a final dance..."
"Shield Knight: I'll go through whoever stands in my way! First you, then the mirror... And then you again!
Hyaaaaah!
"
Victory speeches "The Enchantress: What a weak display! You may kneel and pledge your loyalty now."
"The Enchantress:
Oh ho ho ho ho!
You hadn't the slightest hope of defeating me.
"
"The Enchantress: Though I snuffed you out... I hope this ordeal has been
illuminating.
"
"The Enchantress: If not for my mercy, your fate would be sealed! Run, before I change my mind!"

You!
You're the one who has

plenty
of help,
hahaha!
Didn't I, Prism Knight? Or should I say, “Prison Knight”?

Puzzle Knight
?
"
"Puzzle Knight: ..."
"Prism Knight: ... So, You've been using me this entire time. This was all a trap you invented?"
"Enchantress: Oh, dear me, no, I found it. And it's not a trap, it's an
opportunity
. With all the heroes locked away here, I'm doing as I please on the outside!
But the game's almost up,
isn't it?
Time for one last turn!
"
Defeating the Enchantress "Enchantress:
Enough!
I tire of this Pocket Dungeon. Playtime is over, I've no more time for games.
"

friends!

Soon the Tower of Fate will rise, to serve my will with its terrible power!
Ohoho!
"
"Drill Knight: Oh, great. Who else is going to get in my way today? I dunno who you are, but this is our job."
"Tinker Knight: Boss... We may want to hold off. I get the sense that this might be too much."
"Shovel Knight: Just as we warned! You thieves are in over your heads!"
"Drill Knight: A great weapon... at the bottom of the well... Could this be it?"
"The Enchantress:
O-ho-hoho!

"
"Drill Knight: Hey, I serve no one except numero uno! But I did come with plenty of backup - Isn't that right, Hexcavators?"

[The Hexcavators cheer up, the Enchantress starts a dark magic whirlwind]

"The Enchantress: What a
brave
team. Why don't we join forces? Here, have a small taste of my power.

Trivia[]

  • Her Body Swap Mode appearance, the Enchanter, bares a striking resemblance to the character Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda, this even being noted in the Body Swap design article.
    • They jokingly said how a designer must have been playing lots of Ganondorf in Super Smash Bros., a game Ganondorf appears in, this designer being Nick Wozniak.
  • Her outfit is heavily inspired by a kimono.
  • Early concept sketches originally had her a low-cut neckline and exposed back, but this was scrapped, due to the developers feeling that it wasn't "quite right".
  • The Enchantress is one of the 3 characters to appear in all 7 games. She shares this feat with Tinker Knight and Mole Knight.
  • As seen in Shovel Knight Dig, the Remnant of Fate seems to be implied as the true form of the Enchantress, as she manifested herself in a ghostly version of the Remnant when she first briefly escaped her seal from the amulet.
