  • How did you extract the Joustus Portraits from all the cards?  did that require datamining or is there somewhere in the game you can view them outside of the cards with the arrows on them?

    • Much of the new Kign of Cards portraits I uploaded on the wiki a while ago are older versions the developers showed during their livestreams months (if not a year) ago. I will be replacing them shortly with their latest versions since I exported them from the game's files last week.

As for the cards themselves, it's a bit more tricky. I initially recreated a few of them to true pixel size based on early screenshot material and pre-launch playthroughs, but it was time consuming. I can now recreate them from the exported textures I mentioned before however card frames, portraits and arrows are kept on separate sprite sheets. I plan on simply taking in-game screenshots since I can configure the game's display to keep the pixel ratio true, but this will have to wait until I get a new PC in the coming weeks.

    • What can I do to help harvest those screenshots of the card images without the arrows?

    • Oh don't worry about those, I already have them all on an USB stick. I just need to increase their size by 4, add them to frames then upload them as new versions of the portraits already present on the wiki. I'll take care of that this weekend I think.

    • I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but when you do the other cards, could you possibly post the red card versions as well? Or at least the sprites for the red portraits (I am trying to make a printable Joustus, but nobody has the red portraits or cards posted anywhere).

    • I'll see if I have the time for that. Right now I don't.

    • Just to clarify, I'm not asking for the card images, complete with frames and arrows, but just the portraits, as I can make the rest of the card parts myself. In fact, if I had the portrait images, I could actually do them for you, as I have all the blue cards and the ones from Mr Hat's "gilded deck" already done:

These images can easily be split into individual cards; in GIMP, create some guidelines, and then use Image-Transform-Guillotine and it'll split into separate images (I'm sure other image software has similar functionality, but if not, GIMP is free).

    • Ah I see. Those portraits are just mirrored for the red cards actually. I think you can already take those uploaded on the wiki for that, or even the cards you already prepared.

    • Unfortunately, I'm not quite able to do that; lots of the pictures in my cards are partially obscured by the arrows or "ability" icons. The wiki pictures that are already up have 2 issues:

      1. The background is black in all of them, including the "common" card characters, whereas the ingame cards have a black outline and a colored background (either blue, purple, or red depending on the card color), and I don't see any way to color in the background without erasing the outlines.

      2. The image sizes seem to be inconsistently sized; for instance, a number of them I tried downloading are scaled at 185x185 instead of 184x184, which affects their quality negatively (each of the "pixels" forms weird lines around it at all the color borders; not very noticable unless one zooms in, but when it gets compressed to the same size as the others it affects the pixel coloration).

I have been able to make quite a few of them though, such as the cards that are vertically symetrical (since the hidden parts would still be hidden after flipping them), and the standard arrows count as "no arrow" (because they don't cover the pictures), and the unique cards do have a black background, so the wiki portraits have been useful for that (apart from the ones with the wrong sizing of course).

In principle I could flip the ones I have prepared and then use the wiki pictures as reference to fill in the missing pixels manually, but I figured it would be faster to use the portrait sheet (and since I only have Shovel Knight on the Switch I can't extract it myself).

    • I see what you mean. However since the native sprites are kept seperate in the files, I don't intend on uploading them as is on the wiki. I'll see to have them ported on my google drive for you to download once I find the time.

    • Thanks, I appreciate it. When you upload them, will you post the link here on your fandom profile/message wall, or where? (so I know where to check)

    • Btw I think several portraits are missing. If you can confirm which, I'll check in other files.

      EDIT: removed the link.

    • Thank you. The missing portraits for common cards are:

Blorb, wizzem, goldarmor, mole minion, blazorb, birder, hover meanie, and cogslotter.

As for the unique cards, the missing ones are:

Hengineer, Duelist Di, Ledge Farmer, Traiturus, Goache, Doe, Baz, Mom, King Birder, Phantom Striker, Gall, Luan, all 8 knights from the Order, Reize, Fish Head, Mr Hat, Dark Acolyte, Manny, Shield Knight, Shovel Knight, Dark Reize, Donovan, Mysterious Figure, the Enchantress, and Cardia (regular).

However, I have already made red versions of all these unique cards except Duelist Di, Fish Head, and the Mysterious Figure, so I myself personally only need those 3 and the common card portraits.

    • I think I know where to look for those 3. I'll check this weekend.
