The Valentine EX-travaganza! was a Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon Valentine's Day event hosted on February 14, 2023. From February 9 to 13, players could submit their ex-partner's names via a Google Survey to have them appear as in-game Beetos, which showed broken hearts when slayed. In addition, Beefto also gained a flower crown and animation, as well as a new line of dialogue.

This concept was inspired in part by the annual Valentine's Day event at the San Antonio Zoo. Each year, donors contribute money to name a vegetable, cockroach, or a rodent after an ex, to be then fed to an animal. Originally, Celia Schilling, Marketing Director at Yacht Club Games, was searching for new ways to promote Pocket Dungeon. She came up with the idea of "inviting your significant other to be trapped in the Pocket Dungeon with you", which was then changed to "trap your ex".
The idea was pitched to the Vine developer team who approved it since enemies were easy to rename. They pushed the idea further by adding the heartbreak effect and flower plucking Beefto sprites.[1] Morgan Guyer, Yacht Club Games illustrator, made the logo and promotional artwork.[2]
